Columbus vs. Huffman

The Columbus Cardinals faced the Huffman Falcons in their last pre-district game.  They are currently 1-3 on the season with 2 of the three losses being very close.  The Cardinals are looking to gain some momentum going into district play.

The game started off with the Cardinals striking first.  Pflughaupt to Farrow for a 30 yard TD pass less than four minutes into the game.  Less than three minutes later Huffman ties it up with a TD pass of their own.  They finish the first quarter with a field goal.  At the end of the first, Huffman 10 and Columbus 7.

The second quarter was a defensive battle with the Cardinals holding the Falcons to 0 points in the quarter.  The Cardinals took the lead and kept it into half time with a TD run by Bubak.  This was the first half time lead the Cardinals have had this season.

The third quarter started out slow and with 4:32 left the Falcons scored on a TD pass to go up 17-14.  A few minutes later the Cardinals answered back with another TD run by Bubak to go up 21-17 to end the third quarter.

Huffman started the fourth quarter with a TD run, but they missed the extra point to go up 23-21.  Columbus answered back quickly with a TD run by Pflughaupt.  The extra point was blocked, but Pflughaupt recovered it and ran it in for the 2 point conversion.  Half of the fourth quarter left and the Cardinals were up 29-23.  The Falcons answered with 2:44 left with a TD run to go up 30-29.  Less than three minutes left in the game and the Cardinals were charging down the field, but came up short and failed to convert on a 4th and 1 to keep the possession going.

The Cardinals look very balanced on offense and defense.  This loss was not one to hang you head.  The Cardinals look promising going into District play under Bonewald.  Columbus goes into district play with a 1-4 record and play the Caldwell Hornets on Friday, October 7, 2016.  It is also our Homecoming Game.
