Columbus vs Edna Football Scrimmage
The Columbus Cardinals started the season off with a scrimmage against the Edna Cowboys. The Cardinals are led by first year Athletic Director Mike Bonewald. Bonewald brings a new offense, a few new coaches, tons of experience and a fresh start for returning players. I am looking forward to what Bonewald has to offer Columbus and him helping extend our great football tradition.
Cardinals ran through offense, defense and special team plays seeing what worked and what didn’t. They seemed to have a few choices they were trying out at the QB position (Troy Pflughaupt, Ryan Neisner and Adrian Farrow). Returning JR Jaqai Shorter looked great breaking through tackles and not being taken down easily. Returning JR Colson Geisler had a few receptions with good yardage after the catch. Logan Bubak looked good on defense along with multiple players returning from last year.
Overall the Cardinals looked promising for the first Scrimmage of the year. A lot of bright spots with parts that still need to be fine tuned. The Cardinals will Scrimmage Bellville in Bellville on Thursday, August 18. The first regular season game of the year will be at 7:30 on Friday, August 26 at Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Texas
