The Columbus Cardinals Football teams had their last scrimmage of the pre-season against the Bellville Brahmas in Brenham. The varsity’s new offense looked efficient and up tempo. Once again Bonewald had 3 different quarterbacks vying for the starting position. (Pfluhaupt, Farrow and Niesner) All three quarterbacks were pretty steady throughout the night. Farrow did have a few impressive scrambling runs and a nice TD pass. RB Perino had a 60+ yard TD run up the middle. Shorter was a force up the middle and had a touchdown carrying 3 or 4 Brahmas with him. The defense had its ups and downs. At times the Cardinals would stand tall and stop the Brahmas, but occasionally they would let there guard down and give up a big play. Overall the Cards looked good with a few things they need to strengthen before the first game of the year against Bay City.
Bonewald has the Cards offense looking promising given that they have had less than a month to work with it. I can see a bright future for the Cardinals with this new offense. When all cylinders are clicking, I can see bright things for the Cardinals future.
The Cardinals will start the regular season off with the JV/Freshman playing on 8-25-2016 in Bay City and the Varsity will play on 8-26-2016 at Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
