Columbus vs. El Campo

The Lady Cards enter the 2017 Playoffs as District Champs with an overall record of 25-10 and a District record of 9-1.  Columbus faces the El Camp Ricebirds in the first round of the Playoffs in Columbus.

The game was a tightly fought battle in the first half.  The Lady Cards and Ricebirds were evenly matched and kept the score close throughout the first half, with neither team taking a commanding lead.  The first half ended with a score of Columbus 28 El Campo 25.

Coming out of the half the Lady Cards needed to play well to come out with the victory.  You could tell it was a Playoff game.  The atmosphere was tense, the crowd was loud and the play was competitive.  Midway through the fourth quarter the Lady Cards took a commanding 10+ lead with less than 5 minutes to go.  The Ricebirds fought hard to cut into that lead.  The lady Cards were resilient making big free throws and playing some great defense down the stretch.  Columbus wins their first Playoff game of the year 50-45.

The Lady Cards led by Coach Morrison played a well rounded game.  It was a great overall team effort on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.  The Lady Cards were led by Theut with 17 points, Shorter with 11 points, Carter with 10 points, Collier and Trapp with 4 points and Stovall and Perrino with 2 points.

Columbus advances to the second round of the Playoffs in their quest for a state title.  Their next game will be Friday, February 17th in Seguin @ 7 p.m. against Boerne.  Come out and support the Lady Cards!
